BJ's Lounge has a
great selection of local artists on their juke box. Not to mention
those who play there for free at times
.
Walk down any street in the neighborhood and you
will hear live music drifting out windows as musicians
practice. Music echoes from the river, the calliope
of The Creole Queen, the fog horn, the
river boats in the soulful sound of the trains as the round the curve by
my house. in the sound of the
fruit truck , I got merlitons- I have apples I have nice cabbage-I have pears." always stopping in front
of my house.
I select my fruits and
vegetables, on credit at times, reminiscing
about the movie King Creole. The scene with the wagon slowly winding
down a French Quarter street, calling out (Crawfish)
with every few steps, as Elvis Presley watched from a French Quarter
balcony,
singing one of his famous Love ballads
I wake
up to it daily, there is music in
the sound of reveille from the defense center down the street and
in their cadence as they jog through the Bywater. after
all, Louis Armstrong got started playing reveille in a boys home.
These
historic neighborhoods., the first in New Orleans. Have been
producing musical greats such as Jelly Role Martin and Today's
Morning 40 federation since they began.
The Marigny Triangle, located just one block off the French Quarter hosts a number of
well known music clubs. Marigny also has great neighborhood bars.
